Introducing the CUPRA Formentor VZ CUP Racing Edition

Just as we thought the new CUPRA Formentor VZ – with its head-turning looks and 0-100 km/h time of just 4.8 seconds – had reached the pinnacle of everything you’d ever want from a road-legal, performance SUV, CUPRA announced the Formentor VZ CUP Racing Edition.

Why the Formentor VZ is more than you’d ever need…

The VZ model is at the top of the Formentor range. While it’s a smaller SUV, it boasts a 2L turbo petrol engine delivering 245 kW of power and 420 Nm of torque, sent to the road through a 7 speed DSG transmission and all-wheel drive drivetrain. As mentioned, this delivers you from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, with the maximum speed topping out at 250 km/h.

As you’d expect, every model in the Formentor range features a vast suite of advanced safety systems, from common features like city emergency braking and blind spot monitoring, to nifty features like a top view camera, front and rear pre-crash system, semi-automatic vehicle control in a medical emergency, and XDS electronic differential lock system that maximises road holding and improves cornering.

It’s already known as a performance vehicle, having won the Autocar New Zealand Performance Car of the Year 2022 award and Carbuyer’s Best Hot SUV 2022 award. And the latest generation of the Formentor has only improved on this prior success.

At the time, they said: “This blends aspects of a hot hatch, wagon and an SUV into one cohesive package that just happens to be visually striking. Seat is the sporty outpost of the VW empire, and Cupra then goes one better delivering a mix of performance and driver involvement that others in the class find hard to match. Autocar even went onto add:

“And with a range of Formentors to choose from, all with a decent dose of driver appeal, you don’t have to go all out on the VZ to enjoy the benefits of a Formentor life.”
