The new CUPRA Terramar achieves a 5-star Euro NCAP Rating

CUPRA’s newest, most sporty and, electrified SUV has secured the EURO NCAP’s highest rating of 5-stars. The Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) is an independent organisation based in Belgium, where they evaluate the safety performance of all vehicles to be sold in Europe. Although you may be more familiar with the Australia and New Zealand ANCAP rating, both organisations conduct similar crash tests that include frontal, side, and pole impacts, as well as pedestrian protection.

How the Euro NCAP Works

The NCAP safety rating is based on a 5-star system, with the highest level being the safest. The rating is based on performance in four key areas:

  • Adult Occupant Protection
  • Child Occupant Protection
  • Vulnerable Road User Protection
  • Safety Assist

Adult Occupant Protection focuses on most of the safety in frontal, side, and rear impacts, including whiplash. In contrast, Child Occupant Protection assesses how well a child is protected, considering various child restraint systems and crash scenarios. Vulnerable Road User evaluates a vehicle’s impact on pedestrians and cyclists, including the effectiveness of emergency brake systems. Safety Assist evaluates the presence and performance of driver assistance technologies, such as lane-keeping assist, speed assistance, and emergency lane-keeping.

CUPRA has earned a name for itself by earning 5-star Euro NCAP safety ratings on all vehicles tested by Euro NCAP achieving 5-stars, showing the brand’s strong commitment to safety. The Terramar joins the 5-star lineup of the CUPRA Tavascan, Born, Formentor, and Leon.

The integration of all these systems helped the Terramar score highly in each Euro NCAP category.

  • Child occupant scored 87%
  • Vulnerable road user scored 82%
