Behind the Gaze of the CUPRA Terramar
If there’s one thing that distinguishes the CUPRA Terramar and makes it easily recognisable, even in the dark of night, it’s the knowing gaze of its headlight eyes.
The brand’s unmistakable three-triangle light signature shines brightly and stands out from the crowd, illuminating its roadway ahead.
Over and above their design, these headlamps are the result of strenuous research and development that automatically positions the model as a leader of the pack and top of the range. Head of Lighting Electronic Development, Magnolia Paredes, states that the CUPRA Terramar has managed to achieve the highest standard of light output with 25,000 pixels and high-definition Matrix LED Ultra technology. These are the key components behind the CUPRA’s Terramar’s gaze.
Cutting Edge Precision:
One of the biggest innovations is the automatic Glare-free High Beam function, which detects oncoming traffic or cars in front and shields them to prevent glare, all without reducing visibility in other areas of the road.
CUPRA technology uses precise millimetre-level control by dividing the light from the LEDs into twelve separate sections. When driving at speeds of 30 km/h or higher with the high beam on and in automatic mode, these light sections adjust on their own, turning off as needed and adapting to the road condition. In the precise location where the system detects another user, this creates a shadow, eliminating glare while still lighting up the surrounding areas.
Technology for Enhanced Precision
Equipped with high-definition technology, the low beams offer further innovative lighting functions. For example, on a road with more than three lanes, the Lane Light Basic Function comes into play by focusing extra light on your lane and defining it by adapting to the layout of the road, which makes night driving easier.
Meanwhile, the Lane Line Indicator Function is designed to make lane changes easier by creating a stronger beam of light on one side, synced with the turn signal, helping other drivers clearly see the intention to change lanes. The headlight system also includes Lane Change Assist, which works in conjunction with the car’s Side Assist. It projects a dimmer light on the side where another vehicle is detected, alerting the driver that a lane change isn’t safe at that moment. Additionally, this feature includes a warning display on the exterior mirror.
Ready for any situation
Other lighting innovations include the Coming/Leaving Home Ceremonies, which project animations onto the group when opening and clothing the door, and the Orientation Light Basic Function, which displays lines on the ground to show the vehicle’s width, helping the driver navigate narrow roads. The system also includes a Hazard Warning that activates when driving over 65 km/h with an outside temperature below 4ºC. This automatic feature projects a snowflake symbol on the road and displays a warning in the instrument cluster to alert the driver of the risk of icy roads.
The CUPRA Terramar is equipped with all these breakthroughs in lighting technology, and they’ll soon also be available on the new CUPRA Leon and Formentor.
